What We Did
The new community will consist of nearly 3000 homes and have a range of facilities including a primary school and community centre, doctors surgery, library and country park. Western Counties Roofing have been trusted by Taylor Wimpy to be part of this ongoing project installing roofs coverings using a range of different materials for a variety of different specifications. All materials were specified to deliver eco friendly energy efficient properties. The roofing materials required included:
Natural Brazilian slate, is a natural product and offers a unique aesthetically pleasing waterproof covering with proven durability, versatility and protection against extreme environmental and weather condition. Slate is double lapped and laid in a broken bond pattern to prevent water ingress. Natural slated are proven to last the time of the building and which reduces the carbon footprint.
Concrete tiles including Redland Grovebury, Double Roman and Duoplain, all large interlocking tiles with a range of profiles, all of which offer time and cost saving benefits. This is particularly important due to the production pace of the development.
Sarnafil is the UK’s market leading single ply roofing system for commercial, new and refurbished projects and is used for industrial, commercial and residential buildings of all size and purpose. Sarnafil Single Ply was installed on the flat roofs of two large apartment blocks. It is BBA certified to have a life expectancy of 40 years subject to conditions and used with high performance thermal insulate Sarnafil can improve energy efficiency making it a cost effective roofing solution.
Kemper liquid systems ® is a worldwide leader in manufacturing the highest quality wet on wet, cold applied liquid waterproofing for the construction industry. KEMPEROL ® Liquid waterproofing is a complete resin based liquid waterproofing system and bonds directly to virtually any substrate to provide a seamless, elastomeric, UV-stable membrane. It provides solutions for complex detailing and was applied to the dormer cheeks, faces and columns.
Taylor Wimpey required a rapid paced production, Western Counties Roofing e deployed an averages of eight to ten stalers and tillers, two fully trained and approved single ply operatives and a leadsmith, all working to a very tight schedule. An additional complexity is due to the increase in house building, the tiling industry is struggle to meet demands and leads to a national tile shortage. Western Counties Roofing have a strong supply chain and our own Merchant Outlets in the South West we were able to minimise material procurement times with orders made, an essential part of this process is good communication between us and the contractor when roofs come ready.
